Drift Privacy Policy

Drift is a macOS menu bar utility created by San Kim.

Summary

Drift does not include ads, tracking SDKs, usage analytics, or telemetry. Most Drift app data stays on your Mac.

If you buy or unlock Drift, purchase and license verification data is processed by Lemon Squeezy and Drift’s license verification service. Drift does not store full payment card numbers.

Data Stored on Your Mac

Drift stores local app data using standard macOS app storage, including:

• timer settings and app preferences
• trial start date
• paid unlock state, including the normalized license key, Lemon Squeezy license instance ID, and validation time

Purchases and License Unlock

Drift uses Lemon Squeezy for checkout, payments, receipts, tax or billing information, license delivery, and customer portal access. Lemon Squeezy processes the information needed to complete your purchase under its own privacy policy: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.

When you enter a license key in Drift, the app sends a license verification request to Drift’s unlock service. That request includes:

• the license key you entered
• an app instance name, usually based on the app name and your Mac’s computer name
• the existing Lemon Squeezy license instance ID, if Drift already has one for that license
• routine request metadata, such as IP address, that may be processed by Cloudflare and used transiently for rate limiting

The unlock service uses this information to activate or validate the license with Lemon Squeezy, confirm that the license belongs to Drift, and limit abusive unlock attempts. The service returns the normalized license key, license instance ID, and validation time so Drift can save the paid unlock state locally on your Mac.

Drift’s unlock service does not use license verification requests for advertising, analytics, or product telemetry.

Website and Support

The Drift website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process routine request metadata to provide and protect the site and related infrastructure under its own privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/policies/privacy/.

If you email Drift support, we receive your email address and whatever information you include in the message. Support emails are used only to respond to your request.

Data Drift Does Not Collect

Drift does not collect:

• precise location
• browsing history
• search history
• usage analytics
• app activity or timer history
• diagnostics or crash reports sent to a server
• advertising identifiers
• full payment card details

Permissions

Drift may request macOS permissions so the app can perform its local functionality:

• Accessibility permission, to help control system behavior needed for the fade and sleep flow
• system-level access needed to adjust local audio output and screen brightness on your Mac

These permissions are used only on-device. They do not send audio, brightness, timer history, or display state to Drift or third parties. Paid license verification is handled separately as described above.

Data Sharing

Drift does not sell personal data. Drift shares or receives data only as needed to operate purchases, license verification, website hosting, and support:

• Lemon Squeezy handles purchases and license records
• Cloudflare hosts the website and unlock service infrastructure
• email providers process support email that you choose to send

Data Retention

Local app data stays on your Mac until you reset the app, remove the data, or uninstall Drift. Lemon Squeezy retains purchase and license records according to its own policies. Drift’s unlock service does not maintain a separate user database for license verification requests, though Cloudflare and other infrastructure providers may retain routine operational logs according to their own policies.

Support emails are kept as long as reasonably needed to answer your request and maintain support history.

Children’s Privacy

Drift does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
